These interesting creatures are actually more frog than toad, and they also have a secret weapon. They look like an ordinary toad/frog, but when something scares them, they FLIP! They flip over and show whatever scared them their fiery colored bellies. Their secret weapon is now no longer secret. The bright colors on their bellies warn other animals that they are poisonous and would not be good to eat. They excrete(release) their poison through glands on their upper back.
- These toads are around 2 inches long.
- They are semi-aquatic, which means they live in water and on land.
- They live in groups as well, they are social.
- They are both nocturnal and diurnal, so they are active day and night.
- Fire-bellied Toads are omnivorous, meaning they eat both plants and meat. Though they prefer eating crickets, and other small invertebrates.
- Fire-bellied Toads can live anywhere between 5-20 years.
- Fire-bellied Toads can be found in Asia and Europe in the wild.
